Application

Custom kt tape is a treatment option which helps to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and improve performance. You could use it when you have problems with mobility and motor function due to injury or illness. All you need to do is to place a special special tape on your body in a specific direction to help support your joints. The main custom custom kt tape application are as followings:

  • Pain - Custom KT tape reduces pain by taking pressure off the pain receptors
  • Lymphatic - Eliminates lymphatic fluid(swelling) under the skin
  • Joint - Kineiology tape adjusts mis-alignment to aid skin and muscle function
  • Muscle - Supports and strengthens the muscle

Advantages

  • Latex-free acrylic adhesive used on our custom KT tape allows it to adhere safely and comfortably to the skin. As it is heat-activated, the tape attaches itself firmly to the skin even during vigorous activities.
  • The cotton fabric allows moisture to evaporate through the material.
  • The custom KT tape thickness is manufactured to approximate the thickness of the skin’s epidermis.
  • This allows athletes to move and feel in a natural manner.
  • Water-resistant: acrylic adhesive stays firmly attached to the skin even in wet conditions. If you are looking for waterproof sports tape, we also have the specific kind for you to choose.

Instructions

Instructions for using Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology tape is often used to support and relieve pain in muscles, joints, and ligaments without restricting movement.

Here's a general guide on how to apply it effectively:

Materials Needed

  • Kinesiology tape
  • Scissors (to cut the tape)
  • Clean skin (free of lotions or oils)

Basic Steps for Applying Kinesiology Tape

  • Clean and Prepare the Skin: Ensure that the area of skin where you'll apply the tape is clean, dry, and free of oils, lotions, or sweat. Shave any hair if needed for better adhesion.
  • Cut the Tape: Cut the kinesiology tape into the desired length, depending on the area you're treating. It’s usually better to cut the tape into strips for more targeted application. use longer strips for larger areas or for muscles like the quadriceps or hamstrings.
  • Round the Edges: After cutting, round the corners of the tape to prevent it from peeling off at the edges.
  • Stretch the Tape (if needed): Kinesiology tape is designed to stretch. Depending on the desired effect, you can stretch the tape before applying it, or apply it without stretching (for more gentle support).
  • For muscle support: Stretch the tape moderately (about 25-50% stretch) before applying it to the skin.
  • For joint support: Use less stretch, or none at all.

Apply the Tape

  • Anchor Point: Start by applying the tape without stretching it at the "anchor" point. This is usually at the start of the muscle or joint area.

Application on the Target Area

  • For muscle support: Apply the tape along the length of the muscle, following its natural direction of movement.
  • For joint support: Apply the tape across the joint, usually with minimal or no stretch, and then apply it in a crisscross or “X” shape.
  • End Point: As you reach the end of the area being treated, stop stretching and lay the final part of the tape down gently without any stretch.
  • Rub the Tape: After applying the tape, rub it lightly with your fingers. This helps activate the adhesive and ensures it sticks well to your skin.

Tips for Better Results

  • Test the tape: If you're new to kinesiology tape, try it on a small area first to ensure you don’t have an allergic reaction.
  • Don't leave it on too long: Generally, you can wear kinesiology tape for 3-5 days, depending on the area and how your skin reacts.
  • Wear it during activity: It can be worn during workouts or everyday activities, but remove the tape if irritation occurs.

Common Areas for Application

  • Knee: To help with patellar tracking or ligament support, apply tape around the knee in an "X" or “donut” shape.
  • Shoulders: For shoulder pain or rotator cuff issues, apply tape in a “Y” or “I” shape along the shoulder blade.
  • Ankle: For sprained ankles or to support the Achilles tendon, apply a “figure-eight” or “fan” pattern around the ankle.
