Alginate wound dressing is an advanced moist wound dressing, composed of biodegradable, highly absorbent alginate fiber which is derived from seaweed, available in flat and rope patterns. On contact with exudate, these dressings form a moist gel through a process of ion exchange. Alginate for wounds are soft and conformable, easy to apply in cavity wounds or irregular-shaped wounds. Alginate dressing with excellent absorption and good gel-forming effect. Application

Algisite wound dressing manages moderate to severe exudate wounds, such as diabetic feet, pressure ulcers, leg venous and arterial ulcers, burns, postoperative wounds, and traumatic wounds. Also alginate ag dressing can be used for acute mild bleeding wounds.

Instructions for use of Alginate Wound Dressing

Alginate Wound Dressing is highly absorbent and ideal for moderate to heavily exuding wounds. It helps create a moist healing environment and forms a gel upon contact with wound fluid.

Follow these steps for proper application:

  • Materials Needed
  • Alginate Wound Dressing
  • Sterile saline solution or wound cleanser
  • Sterile gloves
  • Scissors (if dressing needs trimming)
  • Secondary dressing (e.g., gauze, foam, or adhesive bandage)

Application Steps

Wash Hands & Prepare Materials:

Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.

Put on sterile gloves to prevent contamination.

Clean the Wound:

Use sterile saline or a wound cleanser to clean the wound.

Pat the surrounding skin dry with sterile gauze.

Apply the Alginate Dressing:

If needed, cut the Alginate Wound Dressing to fit the wound size.

Place the dressing directly onto the wound, ensuring full coverage without overlapping onto healthy skin.

For deep wounds or cavities, gently pack the dressing into the wound without overfilling.

Secure with a Secondary Dressing:

Cover the alginate dressing with a suitable secondary dressing (e.g., foam, gauze, or an adhesive bandage) to keep it in place.

Change the Dressing as Needed:

Change the dressing every 1 to 3 days, or as directed by a healthcare provider.

Replace the dressing sooner if it becomes saturated with fluid.

Removal:

Gently lift the dressing from the wound. If it adheres, moisten it with sterile saline to ease removal.

Dispose of the used dressing properly and wash hands after handling.
